  • Intersecting objects - Black spots

    Hey.

I tried search the forum for similar threads.
I found some, but no one solving my problem.

My problem is as stated in the topic. I have planes scattered on a object. These planes also intersect the object leaving dark spots.
The main object has a fastsss2 material while the planes that is scattered has a vraymt material with a high transparency (refraction)

You can see the setup in these images.
The scattered planes have 100% refraction in this test renders just to show of the dark spots a little bit better. in the final render i hope to put the refraction to 50% or so just a get a nice "fury" look along the silhouette of the banana.

What i have tried with no luck so far is:

    -Turning of shadows
-Set affect shadows under refraction on the plane material.
    -Secondary rays bias (different values)

    My goal:

I want to create some "fury" details on this banana. And i want these details to blend with the banana.

    Specs:

    Windows 7 x64
    Vray 3.10.03
    3Ds max 2015 SP3

    Thanks

We will fix this, but for the moment you can try using one of the other modes for multiple scattering in vrayfastsss2 (prepass based, or object-based).

Ah ok, wasn't aware that this was a limitation.
Thanks for the options, I will try them out.

      Edited:

      Ok so i tested it.
Prepass-based illumination map seems to solve the black spots. But the overal quality and look of the sss is significant worse then raytrace. But anything better then the splotches
      thanks for the tip!

      Cheers

        Ok here are some results.

        This first image is

VrayFastsss2 On both the banana and the flakes with prepass-based turned on in the shader. (rate 0)

Second image is VrayFastsss2 on both only now with raytraced under multiple scattering.

This third image is what i originaly planed to do. Vrayfastsss2 on the banana and Vraymt with high refractance on the flakes. (using prepass-based on the sss)

I am not sure what do go for, because i actually like the result from image one.

        edit:
added a forth picture to see the banana without the scattered flakes.

          woa.

i thought i was all in the clear, now i start seeing pink spots instead.
          strange stuff.

the peel have fastsss2 with prepass-based ID1 the flakes on the peel has fastsss2 with prepass-based id1 so they blend.

the banana and the banana flakes has the same setup only id2 to blend. the outer skinlayer (the yellow) has a fastsss2 with raytrace.

            hmmmmm......
I saved, restarted max. and without doing anything, just instantly start a render again and it was solved.

now i'm more afraid what might happen when i submit this to the render farm. if it suddenly will start pinking out again.

            anyways, restart works for now
