  • Rectifying Vlado's new Suggested settings with desired look

    Vlado,
I checked out your suggested settings on Youtube where you set the Global Subdiv Multiplier to 0.0 and let vray do the choosing. I'm trying to make it work with our scenes.

You can see that there's a large light intensity difference between your settings and my original render settings. I suspect this is because the small, bright light.

Is there a way I can fix the scene slightly to align your settings with the original settings better?

    Thanks

I actually would not recommend setting subdivs to 0. It slows down rendering in most of my cases

Just as an aside, that's a really impressive speed up!

          Hello,

Any chance that using Max Ray Intensity would have an impact on this ?

Dmitry, do you mean global subdiv multiplier or individual lights.

Also Nicolas/Jo and Alex, I'll try your suggestions.

Oh man, Probabilistic lights was on, forgot to turn it off. Let's see if that's the issue. Ps. it really doesn't seem to work and it doesn't seem like it should default to on.

Just noticed a possible bug. Ambient Occlusion in the GI tab has no effect when using "Global Subdiv Multiplier" set to 0.0

ok, it's not because of the global subdivs multiplier, but I can't get it to show at all currently, still investigating.

Alright, well it's showing now. Using the Amb. Occlusion value of 4.0 to see it though. Just more subtle than I thought it was.

thats odd. i usually use 0.6 or lower. never gone above 0.8 or it looks really heavy. i wonder why you are getting different results. suggests undersampling of some kind, since with the vray dirtmap you get much heavier result once you crank the subdivs up past a certain level.

I completely agree. I've had the same previous experience with it coming off way too strong, and at the moment I'm having a hard time seeing it at all at 1.0...Almost no difference between 6" and 2".

I mean global subdivs. Vray does take notably longer with it at 0

Thanks as always for your input Dmitry. I'm still tuning it for our specific scenes seen here:

                            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5fVcMSjoVM

Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks for the help everyone.

I put these together for our group and hopefully someone else will find them useful as well.

Whats the purpose of AO? just make it darker in crevices? its not physically accurate and it does add to render time and noise.
