  • Weird results on dark corner (beta)

    Hi, all!
Just downloaded the new beta and put it to try on a scene I'm working on for my course. I'm using progressive with BF+BF to check how uniform noise got and the result is as shown: some weird artifacts on the darkest areas. They were not there before neither using BF nor IrrMap/LC, so I'm guessing this is related to something in the beta.
(The scene is being lit only by a VRayLight portal with an HDRI to the environment. This render was taken at the 40 minute mark)
    Any ideas?
    Cheers!

Those areas will go away after a while. Basically, because initially those areas were black on the first few passes, V-Ray didn't put additional samples there. As the rendering progresses, the dark areas will shrink as more samples hit something other than black. If you use the light cache as a secondary bounce, it will be a lot better.

There are ways to deal with this a little better and if it becomes a problem, we'll do that.

Thanks for the reply, Vlado. I guess I just found it to be a bit unusual, since 3.20 does not behave like that (and, tbh, I expected it to be artifact-free after 40 minutes). It indeed was clean after a (good) while.
But, then again, that's what tests (and betas) are for.
      Cheers!
