  • 3.30.02 beta + Max 2016 SP1: V-Ray Adv vs V-Ray RT different output

    Hi,

I am getting quite different output in very simple scene when rendering it in both V-Ray Adv and V-Ray RT.

Entire scene has assigned just default Gray VrayMTL. Scene is lit by V-Ray Sun and Sky using new Hosek model, and there are VrayLight portals set to simple mode placed in windows. No color mapping is used (multiplier and burn value at defaults).

To make sure conditions are as similar as possible, in V-Ray Adv render settings I have set secondary GI to Brute Force and matched GI bounces to RT's 3. I've also disabled Max. Ray intensity.

    This is V-Ray Adv output:

And this is V-Ray RT output:

Did I stumble upon some of the RT limitations or is this a bug?

    Nevermind that...

    I am an idiot

I did not notice that the scene had Mental Ray's photographic exposure control set up, and I had no idea V-Ray supports it. What I find a bit curious is that while V-Ray Adv supports all of mr Photographic Exposure controls, V-Ray RT seems to only adapt it's general exposure setting, but ignore tone mapping controls, such as highlight clamping and shadow burning.
