  • volumegrid jitter loading vdb files

    hi there
i have a small problem with a simple vdb fire sim from fume that jitters around when i load them into volume grid for rendering
any ideas what im doing wrong here?

    vbd rendered version: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ozsgcd7ly2vo21f/fire.mov?dl=0
    fume rendered version: https://www.dropbox.com/s/idimm5jupf...fume_.mov?dl=0

im also looking to make the volumegrid rendered output look similiar to the orginal image - iv tried tweaking the fire properties but even when using the fume fx render preset it just seems too bright at the fire center?

    thankyou

    Hello,

For the jittering - it is a known bug that we fixed for the next update.

As for the matching your renders - can you get us the files so we can see where the problem is.

      Hello, squintnic,

The fumefx render preset is meant to give you some visual to work with as an initial base. Equalizing the smoke and fire between FFX and VVG mostly consists of work with the opacity curves and color gradients.

Please check this section of the PhoenixFD help (we have to add it to the volume grid help as well):

            Hello,

This should be fixed in the 3.30.04 update. If you're using this version and it's still happening - can you provide us with a simple scene representing the issue.

            Thank you,

I'm using a nightly builds from a couple of weeks ago (it's signed as 3.30.04), should it be already in there or do i have to download a new one?

Can you try with more recent nightly build, the ones from last week or so should work, it should be in the official builds as well.

Should be fixed in 3.30.04. The fix is also in the nightlies for about a month now - they are labeled as 3.35.01. If you are sure you are using an up-to-date build, could we have a look at a sequence of at least two cache files which jitter?

Just downloaded latest stable build, signed 3.30.04, and jittering is still there.
I can give you some frames or the max file to generate the cache. Where can i send them?
As a side note, if i read then re-write the exact same vdb with houdini it works fine.

                          Hi kagemaru,

The max file won't be of any use I'm afraid.
If you still have the jittering, it's because of something specific with the caches. We need two cache files between which the simulation visibly jitters.

                          Cheers!

Ok sorry no problem, i thought you could sim it since the max itself it's just about 50kb
I'll send two frame tomorrow when i get back to the office.
                            Cheers,

Aaah, ok - if it contains the original FFX sim, that's okay too.

I'll get back to you when we see what's going on.
