  • 3.3 Max crash on LC start

    Hi Team

I have a huge scene that crash max as soon as LC start. I have 32GB ram and at the crash, it's only using about 15GB.
The max file and XREFs are HUGE so won't send that (about 900mb for main max file then 1.5GB with textures XREFS etc).
Will the "3dsmax_minidump.dmp" be suffcient to try and make sense of the madness?
    Kind Regards,
    Morne

Any chance that some of your geo is corrupted? What about static memory instead of dynamic?

When this sort of thing happens to me, I like to hide half the scene and see if it renders. If it does, I hide that half and try the other half, eventually I find an object with rats nest verts or something weird that was imported from some model pack or sketchup, etc.

It's an orignal 3.2 scene that rendered fine. It also rendered fine with the 3.3 Beta. Nothing has changed since then except I'm using the latest production release for 3.3 and changed some render settings.
      Kind Regards,

Still can't get this to work. Already tried merging into a new scene. Crash at same LC stage everytime. Gets about 2 seconds in, then gone
        Kind Regards,

That happened to me while when I was flipping back and fourth between 3.2 and 3.3 on a scene, crash on LC beginning. l went to my latest back up and merged any changed I had made since then.

Yes. You can send it to vlado@chaosgroup.com and we'll take a look.

            Best regards,

Instead of merging the scene into new, I just xrefed it. With a slightly different image aspect ratio, (less height) it's working fine
