  • vryaerialperspective limitations

1: it messes with vrayvolumegrid stuff, namely clouds. (depending on scene order, it either removes them from scene, or doesnt seem to affect them. )

2: it blocks lights, which seems to be a behaviour you would want optional.. (ive got very distant fill lights to illuminate my clouds.. adding v.a.p. kills that illumination. )

3: seems impossible to get a proper alpha/zdepth mask that includes it correctly for post-purposes. ( zdepth cuts off hard at geometry horizon, but aerialperspective continues blending into sky, so any zdepth based corrections give you a hard edge at the horizon)

    - this is a particular problem as in scenes where you might use this effect, you are almost always going to want to play with z-depth desaturation/hazing in post..

Can you send us a sample scenes for issue 1 and 3?

About 1 - you need to set VRayVolumeGrid to render in Volumetric Geo mode and that should solve the issue.

yes but that renders much slower.. and its already very slow.

im surprised this is even an issue.. iirc vray was born from a system that allowed correct layering of volume effects in 3dsmax.

Yes, but it kind of drifted away from there

              I'll add some:

4 - It doesn't work properly with VrayEnvironmentFog and alpha. See image attached.

It renders correctly in front of the sphere gizmo, but completely ignores the EnvFog's alpha. It only respects the wobbly plane's alpha.

Also, If the EnvFog is above the AerialPersp in the FX stack, it just doesn't render at all.

This is severy limiting the usefulness of the Aerial Perspective, imo. Also, it would be nice if you'd mention it in the docs. (Or of course, just fix it! )
