  • Cutoff problem

I remember this happening a long time ago and the solution was to set cutoff to 0 in the material options but I haven't seen it happen in a long time until now in 3.30.03 with this scene...

I'm trying to set different values and while the sharp cutoff effect disappears at some settings in this particular camera view, it is visible in other views (with the same setting). If I try to adjust the setting for the other camera view, then it reappears in this view. Is there such a thing as a "correct" setting for cutoff?

I tried setting the lights cutoff value as well but it didn't do anything...

EDIT: OK, I *think* I've found that the value of 0.5 works well on most of the views but I'd still like to get some more insight into this problem.

You can always set it to 0.0

Thanks for the reply, but that is exactly the problem. I am getting that effect at 0.0 cutoff

Then no idea; can you post that part of the scene or send it to support@chaosgroup.com so that we can check what's wrong?

        Best regards,
        Vlado

                Hi again,

I narrowed down the issue to the window/glass material and its reflection/refraction cutoff parameter. In this setup the reflection/refraction rays are reaching the threshold where reflections/refractions are not being traced. Setting it to 0.005 works fine according to my tests, so please run a test render in your environment with this value.

Yep, it seems to be working. I never thought to check the window material, nor that it could have an influence on the floor's reflection...
Anyway, thanks again for checking it out
