  • Vray Clipper Bugs?

    Hi,
I'm working on a scene in which I used the Clipper.
    I use Vray 3.30.04 with 3ds Max 2016.

I had some frames where it dosen't replace the cutted mesh with the clipper. So the object was open.
Also sometimes the clipper mesh was rendered.

And objects which insecting each other produce artefacts.
For this I think a small per object random offset would help.

In the end I had to use slice with cap holes on two objects and leave two other objects uncutted which I could declare as feature
Now i gonna have some Post work to do...

    Hello,

Are you using motion blur ? Because we have a logged issue that the clipper mesh doesn't handle motion blur correctly. If that is the case - as a workaround you can set only one motion blur sample for the clipper mesh from V-Ray Object properties.

If that is not the case - could you share (a part of) the scene for further investigation ?

    Best regards,

I'm having the same symptoms and I don't have Motion blur enabled. At the moment I have case where clipper worked in partial scene, but after merging to main scene, it didn't work any more.

          Hello,

If it is not motion blur - it would be best if you could send us (parts of) the scene. If it is big you can contact our support and they can arrange ftp access.

          Best regards,

Has there been a bug fix for this mesh clipper + motion blur issue? I'm still experiencing it using 3.60.04.
I tried using the workaround mentioned above, and while it lessened the artifacting, the artifacting persisted in certain areas.

Yep it should be fixed - can you show what artifacts you are getting ? Or even better - can you send a scene ?

I have a new issue with VRay clipper. To make sure I did everything correctly I created the clipper twice. It does nothing, instead I get this warning "open mesh not valid clipper will be disabled". I tested the same scene with Max 2018 and Max 2020 by using the latest V-Ray 3.71 version.

What object are you using for the clipper mesh? Can you share a part of the scene - the object in question and the clipper should be enough.

                        Thanks Yavor,

I can't post the geometry public, but I might email it. I'm currently out of office, but I can send it in a few days. The confusing part is that it was first working properly. I think this came after I added few massive XRef scenes that weren't included in clipping. I used the include option to select the clipped objects.

You can write to support at chaosgroup.com - they can arrange an upload location if the file is big.
