  • Render Mask (Selected) doesn't work with Backburner?

I've got to render a camera sequence of just one particular object. The fastest way for me is to use the "Render mask" feature with the option "Selected". It works excellent if I render directly in Max but if I send the job for render to Backburner, an error appears and rendering can't start. I tried with a simple teapot scene and doesn't work there either. For Max and Vray versions check signature.

EDIT: I just found out that this feature doesn't really work for animations since the frame buffer isn't cleared when a new frame starts rendering. Is this normal? I'm getting something like a trails effect where the object trajectory is along the animation because of this. Anyways, I will just use good old "matte" to achieve what I want.

    Hey Alex,

Please use another Render mask mode if you want to pass the render to a render manager. 3ds Max doesn't keep the selection when the scene is saved. Object ID should work fine thought.

Make sure that Previous render is set to Clear.

Alternatively you may try a pre-render script which selects the appropriate objects (Put them in a seclection set, then select it via script at render start)

        Untested, but it should work.
        Software:
        Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1
        3ds Max 2016 SP4
        V-Ray Adv 3.60.04

        Hardware:
        Intel Core i7-4930K @ 3.40 GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 (4096MB RAM)
        64GB RAM

You guys seem to like it complicated
Either place your object(s) on a dedicated layer and use Render Mask - Layers mode
Or create a Named Selection Set with your object(s) and use Render Mask - Include/Exclude List and grab your Named Selection Set from there.

Fast & simple, and works perfectly with BackBurner !

          My 2 cents

The Include/Exclude list is actually the prefereable solution then - didn't think of that ^^
