  • VraySky horizon too high or too blurry

    Hello,

I have a problem with the VraySky horizon: In a simplified test scene I have a 100% reflective VrayPlane, a VraySun and the VraySky as environment (Vray 3.30.03, 3ds Max 2016), rendering with a spherical camera. I changed the ground albedo to black to better see the problem (see attachment). With an infinite reflective plane as the ground I would expect it to meet seamlessly with the horizon of the sky, getting basically a mirrored sky. Instead there is always a blurry line between ground and sky in the color of the ground albedo. In mental ray there is an option to offset the horizon, it seems there is no option in Vray to do so. Am I missing something to fix this? How would I get a seamless horizon with VraySky?

    Thanks,
    Bob

I'm afraid that this is not possible with V-Ray, you could set the Albedo color to white, decrease the Turbidity to 2 but the horizon will be still a bit darker:

Thanks for testing it. Is there a physical approach that prevents from this being possible to do? I would like to create a 360°-seascape that I can use as reflection map, therefore I need the seamless horizon. Your approach is better, but still it does not look correct in a photoreal sense. Maybe it is an idea for future versions to give the VraySky some additional settings like horizon height or blurriness or something like that?

        Yes, +1 for this

In the next service pack there will be controls for the blend angle between the sun and albedo colors and option to offset the horizon up or down.

This is good news, thanks for putting it in the development and that it could be done that quickly!

Are you talking about the one coming now in the next week or so, or is that not a full SP release yet?
              Kind Regards,

Yes, this improvement will be part of the next update 3.4

I know this is an old post, and there is now a horizon slider, but it wont go negative/down?
