  • MAX.vray Custom UI and Default switcher

    Hi team

It would appear this hasn't been updated in ages, probably as far back as Max 2012 or older. Could we get an update for this please?!? There's a bunch of defaults that are outdated with the MAX.vray switcher.

    For example:
The material editor as default still has the materials with Affect shadows NOT ticked. Even when you reset the material editor. Also the cutoff is still 0.005 instead of 0.001. When you create a single NEW VRaymaterial, the settings are correct however. When this get updated, maybe we can get the MAX.vray switcher to also have GGX as the default BRDF

With the current MAX.vray switcher, I think it also removes some of the newer Max menus in the menu bar. Please also update this.
    Kind Regards,
    Morne

The default switcher was actually updated during the 3.0 beta period so it was not so old but it certainly needs another update.

Unfortunately no, the update will not be part of the SP5. We will let you know when we fix it.

Doesnt look like this was updated yet in 3.50.03

The material library still defaults to the OLD VRayMaterials for example

                      Hi Morne,

We have updated them, if I'm not wrong for sp5. Maybe the old defaults are still on your machine, I think you can safely remove this folder "C:\Users\sasho\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\ 2017 - 64bit\ENU\en-US\defaults\MAX.vray\Medit.mat" and they will get replaced. I've attached a screenshot with the current material theme.

                      Best regards,
                      Alexander

Thanks. This now works as expected with one minor exception. Only 1 difference remain between the default switcher and making a new material. The UI switcher default material has the self-illumination GI set to ON, while making a new default material has the same setting OFF.
                        Kind Regards,
                        Morne

Funny fact: the default value has changed the next day after we've updated the library, but yeah we still should updated them, thanks for the pointer.
