  • 3DS MAX 2017 Checkboard

I don't think it's a V-Ray thing, but this checkerboard crash in MAX 2017 is getting old. I have the latest NVIDIA driver, the latest SP for MAX 2017, but if I change the viewport to anything but clay, MAX crashes. Any clues? I tried all the MAX graphic modes and nothing fixes it.

mine was doing that too...I finally had to merge it into another scene so I could put it on "standard".....

on a positive note the Latest nvidia driver seemed to help with meshes disappearing when doing edit poly though. I have not installed any VIZPARK stuff yet. Wonder if that is what slowed your material editor down ( i think you mentioned that in a previous post?)

The whole checkerboard is happening on all projects. When you install VIZPARK, let me know if you see a slowdown.

Make sure "Improve Quality Progressively" is turned off in the viewport global settings

I tried that. I had to turn it on to see a jpg I was modeling over, but I turned it off when trying to troubleshoot.

It seems that reinstalling MAX fixed the issue. Try working without seeing your textures, it is miserable! I tested a few models and so far, I can see my materials without the checkboard from hell crash.

Cool Beans, maybe it was just a bad install the first time. Ive had that happen a couple times where there are no errors but something still goes bad and after a reinstall its all good.
                Cheers,

I don't know, but I am loving it. Now, everything is working, except select by material, but I have a script that does that for me.
