I've noticed for a long time now that the render setup window takes a lot of time to open if the renderer is Vray. It takes anywhere from 3 to 5-6 seconds. Is this normal? With Scanline it takes just a second or so. The problem appears in both Max 2016 and 2017. I've noticed that this started happening 2-3 years ago or so. I remember the days when in Max 2009 it was pretty much instantaneous. Is something wrong with my setup or is this "normal"?

Hmm... I restarted my PC and it seems that the problem went away. Strange. Looks like it happens only after long working sessions. Anyways, it's still twice as slow as Scanline after restart. Is this normal?Last edited by Alex_M; 13-08-2016, 04:50 AM.Aleksandar Mitov

I'm not sure to be honest. How do I check?

This has affected me for a while now as well. Not sure exactly when it started happening but also seems to be independent of any restarts. Using a local license server.www.dpict3d.com - "That's a very nice rendering, Dave. I think you've improved a great deal." - HAL9000... At least I have one fan.

Can you try to capture this issue on a short video ?
Do you have any additional render plugins ?

Yes, 3.04.02 (I just double checked it). Everything seems fine with the license as I don't get any "license not found" or similar errors. Absolutely zero problems with acquiring the license (at least any problems that are shown to the user).Last edited by dlparisi; 23-08-2016, 06:25 AM.www.dpict3d.com - "That's a very nice rendering, Dave. That sick feeling in the pit of your stomach when you hit F10 to bring up the dialog box only to realize it was already open behind another window ...www.dpict3d.com - "That's a very nice rendering, Dave. I think you've improved a great deal." - HAL9000... At least I have one fan.

It's usually superfast on a clean 3ds Max installation; after a few months it starts to get worse and worse and becomes slower not only for V-Ray but for other renderers as well. All I know is that the slowdown is not caused by V-Ray itself.
Best regards,

Wow, my delays are nowhere nearly as bad as dlparisi's are. Anyways, attached below is my recording. You'll see it's not as bad but still slower than scanline. It gets worse after long working session, here I've been working just for a while.
I just remembered that the license server is local because every time I install Vray on the workstations I chose local license server. Maybe the problem is with Max? I started having these delays after Max 2012 if I'm not mistaken. Everything up to 2012 was super fast to open. Anyways, I hate it when the UI is slow which is the case with most places in Max. I like things to be fluid as much as possible. Hopefully Autodesk will work in this direction.Attached FilesLast edited by Alex_M; 23-08-2016, 12:12 PM.Aleksandar Mitov
