  • Domelight: Lock texture to icon does not work in ADV, but in RT

    Here is another problem:
The lock texture to icon function does not work if the HDRI from the domelight is instanced to the environment slot. The rotation is used for the domelight, but it doesn't update in the environment slot. When you switch to RT though, everything works as expected. Attached is the scene file for the problem.
If there is fix for this problem, please tell me. This is urgent.

To see the problem, you have to set the domelight to invisble.

    Looks like a bug.
If it was that easy, it would have already been done

How long does it take to fix it in a nightly?

Actually the bug is in the RT engine - it mistakenly links the orientation of the environment texture with that of the dome light. I don't know how long it will take to fix it yet, it's not too hard.

If you want more accurate preview of the environment that matches the production renderer, it would be best to use the IPR mode of the production renderer (which you can start from the VFB) in the nightly builds - it will give you 1:1 preview of your scene with the production renderer.

If you want to change the orientation of the environment in the production renderer, you can use the horizontal and vertical rotation parameters of the VRayHDRI texture.

        Best regards,
        Vlado

Actually the bug in the RT engine is exactly what I need. I have to rotate the domelight in all three directions to get a nice reflection. Now I also need that rotation in the reflection environment override and in the secondary ray override (for the reflection of the shadows, as written in one of my last mails). Can I somehow force the linking behaviour, maybe with a script command? To me it just makes more sense this way. Part of the problem is that I made lots of previews together with a photographer in RT, and now I can't match the shots in the production renderer. Using RT as production is no option because it doesn't support OSL and stuff.

+1 It would really be a nice feature to have an option to link / transfer the orientation of the dome map to the environment map.

The CPU mode of V-Ray RT supports OSL just fine. But I can also get you a script to convert the rotation of a dome light to horizontal/vertical rotation to the HDRI, if this will help?

Yes, this would be extremely helpful!
Just to make sure: The domelight is rotated in all directions (x,y,z). But the rotation parameters in the Vray HDRI Loader only supports horizontal and vertical. Will the conversion work in this case?

Yes, I will be able to make it work, one way or another... will post the script in a bit.

Vlado, did you have success with the script? If not, I will try to render with RT in production mode. Although some parts just render black, don't know why.

Well, you were right that I need a 3rd angle to be able to do that, so I've added an internal 3rd rotation parameter; I will email you the script and the build a bit later tonight.

                      Best regards,
                      Vlado

I emailed you a link to the build, along with the script.

Let me know if this works for you and apologies for the troubles this discrepancy has caused.

                        Best regards,
                        Vlado

                          Thanks Vlado,
I have received it. It will take a while to test it, but I will report back. Promised.
