  • turbosmooth and parenting issue on VrayRT

    Hi all,

    i don't know if that has been addressed yet, but i found a very annoying bug with this conditions:

    1) turbosmooth applied on a skinned mesh
    2) object parented (linked) to an animated bone (CAT bone, in my case, don't know about standard bones)

    In these cases, when i render the animated sequence with Vray RT CUDA, the turbosmoothed skinned mesh freezes randomly conserving that shape in the next few frames, then suddenly he recovers the position back in place...
    Same happens with case 2)...the object randomly loses its parent for a few framew then he get back in place..

    Using meshsmooth for case 1) seems the cure....So: don't use turbosmooth with Vrayrt.
    For case 2) a workaround seems to be using the link controller instead of parenting.

    Is this a known issue? Especially turbosmooth and Vray RT CUDA.
    No issues at all rendering all the above with Vray Advanced.

    Hi,

    What is the V-Ray and 3DS Max version that you are using ? Have you tried with RT in CPU mode? Can be a problem of the exporter.
    I just did a quick test here with one very basic setup - skinned teapot with turbosmooth and 15 frames animation, which worked find on RT Cuda.

      Hi Tashko,

      thank you for your prompt response.

      My platform is 3dsMax 2016 SP3 + Vray 3.40.03

      GPU: 2XGeforceGTX980Ti

      rest of the rig:

      Core i7 5930k 64Gb Ram
      Windows 10

      Other than what mentioned above all working flawlessy, both RT and Advanced.

      I'll proceed with testing with CPU mode (but for me is useless, i need gpu mode) and i'll try to recreate the problem in a small scene to send, thank you!

        Sent two scene files: one with CAT bones and the second with regular max bones. The bug is occurring in both cases.
        Rendering with RT CPU seems fine, as with Vray Advanced.

            The RT frame skipping is reproduced and forwarded as a bug to our developers. According to my tests the issue is in the exporter and occurs on both CPU and Cuda engines.
            We will post here when the fix came out.

                small update...Vray RT 3.50.01 in 3dsmax 2017 in still affected by the same bug, just tested
