  • Vray light plane on interior blocked the vray sky ?

hi, i have a problem here. i use vray 3.40.03.
i use simple vray sun n sky, the vray sky i put it on 3dsmax environment slot (press .
then i add vray light plane outside the window, to brighten up the interior.

the problem occur when i use simple multiplier (not using skylight portal mode). i already check invisible. but somehow the vray light plane is blocking the vray sky GI. i didnt have any problem with the previous vray version. this problem is not happen when i use skylight portal.

is this a bug or i miss something here ?

    attached is the images.
viewport.jpg is the screenshot how i put the vray light plane.
sunskyonly.jpg is the rendering result using vray sun and sky only
sunskylightportal.jpg is the rendering result using vray sun and sky and vray light plane as skylight portal (simple)
sunskyvraylightplane.jpg is the rendering result using vray sun, sky, vray light plane using color (white) and multiplier 6.0

    thanks

Yes, this is what happens because vray lights block GI rays even if you set them to "invisible". This is purely a visibility option for the camera. There's a workaround, though! Create a VrayColor map and set it's alpha to "0". Drag the map in the light's texture slot. Now the light will allow GI rays to go through. Yes, it's a tedious task, especially if you've got lots of lights but it's the only solution for now as far as I know. Vlado mentioned that the default behavior is the physically correct way lights in the real world work. But as evident, sometimes we need to cheat to get a specific result.

One more checkbox for "block gi" would go a long way
        Software:
        Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1
        3ds Max 2016 SP4
        V-Ray Adv 3.60.04

        Hardware:
        Intel Core i7-4930K @ 3.40 GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 (4096MB RAM)
        64GB RAM

+1 for that. Default should be to NOT block GI I think...

As Vlado mentioned, default is to block GI, and this is physically correct, so best not to tamper with that.
