  • Vray 3.5 problem - Clipping planes causing white Zdepth Element

    Hi all,

I have encountered a problem with Vray 3.5 and can't seem to solve it. Am I missing something simple?!

In summary, the VrayZdepth Render Element is rendering white if the "Clip Manually" checkbox is checked on a camera.

    Here is the first image:

In the image above, my Zdepth element has "use camera clip boundaries" ticked. I have set the clipping planes.
I have unchecked the checkbox (i do not want to clip my actual render).
I have an unexpected result - the Teapot is completely white.

    here is a second image:

In this above image, I have checked the "Clip Manually" checkbox.
The result is as expected - correct Zdepth pass.

Is this a bug? Am I overlooking something in my setup?

Would appreciate any advice. I have attached a .max file to this thread.

    Cheers!

This is fixed for 3.50.04. If you need the fix urgently, email me to vlado@chaosgroup.com so that I can get you a build.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

I made a forum thread about an issue.
It was confirmed as a bug within 7 hours by none other than the academy award winning renderer's creator, Vlado.
I was given an updated build that had fixed the issue and can complete the project in the latest Vray without any fuss at all.

How many other Software companies - or companies in general - offer this kind of service to customers?

        Thankyou!

I understand - the fact I could know it was a bug right from the 1st reply (not user error) saved time. And I can think of many examples where bugs or security issues are reported and software vendors do not give patches to the end users for months and months!
