  • Slow "Loading bitmaps and updating object"

    Hi,
    We have problem with initial part of rendering process on one of our machine. When we hit render button, the Loading bitmaps process and updating object process takes a lot of time (about 30sec in very small interior scene without heavy geometry and textures). And the 3dmax process hangs for a while two times. After slow loading bitmaps and updating objects the rendering process is running fast and without any problems.

    I did some test on a new scene with a few teapots with 4-5 bitmaps and other scenes. The same issue, but a little faster. Yesterday everything works fine on this machine and without any problems since past few years.

    The other machines don't have any problems and the initial part takes about 3-5sec.

    - last ver of vRay;
    - DR off;
    - displace off
    - Asset Tracking clean (without network paths);
    - The resolution of the render doesn't affect to this issue;
    - the scene takes about a half of the total RAM (about 16GB from 32gb)

    Any ideas?

    Can you post the vraylog.txt file right after this happens? It should have some pointers on what is slowing things down.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

      Hi, Vlado, log file:
      vraylog.zip

      I reinstaled the vray, but the problem is still here.

      Thank you,
      Tom

        There is some delay when loading the bitmaps in the log; some more questions:

        *) If you do a second render right after the first one with the same scene, is it any faster or is it still slow?
        *) Are your textures on a network drive or stored locally?

        Best regards,
        Vlado

          Hi Vlado,
          Thank you for checking the log file.

          *) no, every time it is slow.
          *) the textures are stored locally. Each texture is in the same folder as the scene.

          * It is happening for every scene on this machine.
          I will try reinstal the windows. This looks like a problem with the computer, not vRay, doesn't it?

          Best,
          Tom

            Same issue on my side as well - takes forever to load bitmaps, not even using DR

              I will need some way to reproduce this here in order to figure out what's going on. Are you sure there are no missing maps somewhere?

              Best regards,
              Vlado

                No missing maps - I also run the Relink Bitmaps (Colin Senner) script to make sure...
                Using UNC file paths, all maps on a network server - previous version of Vray had no issue loading bitmaps

                  Just started having the same issue today. "Loading bitmaps" takes 6 or 7 minutes, then very slowly I see "updating instances" which takes another several minutes.

                    Are you using V-Ray 3.50.04 and does the the issue persist with 3.40.03 as well?

                        I am using 3.50.04, not sure about 3.40.03, haven't had that installed for awhile.

                            No not yet, it will be best if someone could send us an e-mail about that mentioning this thread so we could arrange a teamviewer session and check the issue first hand.
