      No, that made things worse. No smoothing group looks the best, however, things are not seaming properly.

        usually displacement tears the edges at uv seam border. If you merge them together it should work fine, but you have to have supporting topology there to subdivide the mesh.

          Also is it a texture map or a procedural map that drives your displacement, if it's a texture shouldn't you be better off with 2d displacement. And you should set a negative shift value of your displacement amount too.

            You need to make sure that the UVs are consistent in those places and then turn on the "keep continuity" option in the V-Ray displacement modifier.

              I did have keep continuity on; I don't recall having this issue in the past, I ended up fixing things in post.
