  • Vray and Forest Pack huge problem

I'm having this weird issue when rendering some foliage using Vray and Forest Pack, not sure who/what is causing this issue, but we're in middle of production and this needs to be solved ASAP.

I have this forest pack scattering a few plants and grass around the terrain, the shaders are simple since it's a cartoon look, but randomly when rendering some shots this bug occurs. It's on random frames and on random machines. My guess is that it is a vray issue, since they are being scattered, but just not rendered correctly.
While the forest object is the same in most shots, it doesn't occur in all shots which is even more weird. I tried increasing the Max Transparency Levels from 50 to 500, but it doesn't help, since the shader has opacity maps.

Any idea what is causing this? We even updated to the latest Forest Pack, but we have the same problem.

It seems to be the same issue we reported in this post
    https://forums.chaosgroup.com/forum/...-motionblur-on

Chaosgroup support told me that this bug has been fixed for the next V-Ray service pack.
    (Sorry for my bad english)

It indeed looks like the same issue. Do you know if the most recent 3.6 builds have this issue fixed? We can update if it fixes it.
Either that or i can try turning vrayDenoiser off...

        Hello, Moriah

Please, update with a build created after 3rd June, if you have access. It must have the fix inside. Write back if the issue persists.

        Best regards,

Hi, everytime i try to render a shot that has forest pack objects locally with the new Vray 3.6 it crashes instantly. It gives me a warning that "This version of Forest Pack doesn't support this Vray version"... I skip it, and right after light cache calculation starts 3dsmax instantly crashes... My guess is that Forest pack needs an update to work with 3.6?

Also the "transforming vertices..." and "updating objects..." in Vray is extremely slow now, it wasn't like this before.

edit: Downloaded most recent 3.5 instead of 3.6, and it seems to be back to normal, let's see how it behaves on the network...

VrayProxies with stitched alembics from Realflow are crashing instantly when rendering locally, it's the 3.5 stable build from June 13th... We need a solution fast... Any ideas? They were rendering normally before updating

edit: Temporary workaround was to use ply2vrmesh to convert the stitched alembic, not the best option right now, since we have a lot of them, any way to automate several alembics in different folders?

                Hello,
I'm happy that you've found workarounds and I'm sorry that I couldn't help you with a solution at the moment. It will be best if you could send us any problematic scenes and assets.

You're right about that, I'm sorry I missed that. I was just told that the Forest pack update should be available soon.

We'll need to check this and see what's causing it in your scene. It will be best if you could send a simplifiied version of the scene.

We'll need an alembic file causing such crash to investigate and fix this problem. It will be very helpful if you could send a file to me and I'll forward it ASAP to our developers. Please, send it to margarita.stoeva@chaosgroup.com

                Thank you!

                      Hello, Moriah

I did some tests with new alembic exports from Realflow and stitched them but there is no crash when rendering them in VRayProxy. It must be something specific to your scene or assets that's causing it. You can use the FTP access provided by the support team and we'll do our best to help you.
                      Thank you!

                      Best regards,

There is a new Forest Pack beta(5.3.4) that should work fine with V-Ray 3.6.
If it was that easy, it would have already been done

Hi again, the problem still persists in network..... With Vray 3.5 stable from 13th June and Forest Pack 5.3.2....

Is the bug fixed on the stable builds, or only in the nightly builds?

We're going to try to update to 5.3.4 and Vray 3.6 again to see if it changes anything...

We installed 3.6 and the newest Forest Pack and so far the issue seems to be resolved!
