  • 3.5.04 Denoiser error

I'm having trouble with the denoiser element in Max 2015 ver 3.5.04. I receive the warning "Noise levels render element not found". single pass on rgb, show noise result channel. The denoiser pass completes but no result is visible in the denoiser channel. Very simple test scene with sphere plane and sun.

Installed SP-4 now Max crashes when I add the denoiser element.

Now Max crashes every time I start a rendering.
3.4.01 works. Anything above crashes Max upon render.
Empty scene switch to Vray, hit render, transforming vertices-crash. Message- an error has occurred the application will now close.

What GPU devices do you have and what driver version are you using? Does it crash when you don't have denoiser render element?

This sounds very strange. Are you sure V-Ray is installed properly? Any other third party plugins that can cause troubles?
If it crashes with basic scene like that it could problem with the setup. Best would be to send mail with link to this thread to support@chaosgroup.com. They can track it or if anything else doesn't help, offer remote session to check what is going on.

I Use the default installation setup. All the paths look okay. It's very odd that it works if I go back to 3.4.01. It was all working fine with 3.5.04 until I noticed that the denoiser wan't working. It was after switching to different versions for testing that the Max crashes started happening occasionally. It got worse and worse. I went through the max install folder to make sure all the files were gone before reinstalling.

It is hard for me to tell / will be guessing without more specific data (does it crash with adv and/or rt, does it say something in the log, does it crash with the scanline render, etc). Haven't seen such problem so far. It might be a lot of going back and forth, better mail to support@chaosgroup.com.

                      Hello,

When Max crashes like this - it creates a crash dump file called 3dsmax_minidump.dmp located in the temp folder (%temp% in windows explorer). If you could send one such file to the support e-mail it might help diagnose the problem.

                      Best regards,

I ran a system restore point and got things working. However when I add the denoiser element in 3.5.04 it crashes. I just sent the dump file. I tried disabling hardware acceleration.

                        Thanks for your help!

Created a new test scene. Not crashing anymore but the denoiser isn't working.
I receive the warning "Noise levels render element not found". selected single pass on rgb, show noise result channel. The denoiser pass completes but no result is visible in the denoiser channel.

I manually added the Noise levels render element. Now it's working! Is this a bug?

Adding that Noise levels element fixes the crashing file.
