  • Lens Effects: Crash to desktop on high res images

Just happened twice on two high res renders in around 12000px width while calculating the bloom and glare. I have the minidump for vray.exe and 3dsmax.
    Does this help?

Too less V-Ram maybe? Have you tried to untick hardware accelerated?
German guy, sorry for my English.

128GB in my machine, when the GPU can't handle the effects it should fall back to CPU mode as far as I know.

More details are needed - at least OS version, GPU types, CPU type, V-Ray version, drivers version and if the problem persist when the hardware accelerated option is off.
Even though V-Ray does its best to fallback to CPU, if for example the drivers/OS/Max/etc are crashing, there is not much that we can do.

            Okay, here are the specs:

            OS: W7 Pro SP1
GPU: GeForce GTX Titan 6gb, Dirver Version 382.33
            CPU: 2x Xeon 2687W, 3.1 Ghz
            Ram: 128gb
            Max: 2017, no SP
            V-Ray: 3.50.04 stable

In the meantime, let me check if the problem occurs when hardware acc. is turned off.

Oliver, Slightly off topic, but is there a reason you're not running the latest SP's for 2017 ? We're on to SP2 and whilst no guarantee it would fix or is even related to your problem, that was what caught my attention and might help ?

When hardware acceleration is turned off, the render does not crash after finishing. Still, I would like to know whats going on and causes the issue.

If you have time and you can try few different drivers, it might be helpful. I would recommend trying the latest one 382.53 (http://www.nvidia.com/download/drive...x/119914/en-us) and if it fails, probably 376 (http://www.nvidia.com/download/drive...x/112200/en-us)

In the meaintime, we will try to reproduce it on our end ... Sorry for the troubles.

As I said, I have the dump file. If it helps for troubleshooting.

It still sounds like a driver problem, but having the dump file can be a start, yes.

I am having the same issue.
I am rendering 6x1 cube maps for VRs and they crash after they finish rendering which is not ideal when they take 4 hours to render!

My driver version is 372.90 but I will try the newer one to see if it solves the issue

Tried this in 3.6 and with driver 376.09
So far no crashes, the lens effects are falling back to CPU mode because of missing VRAM. Will keep you updated if this really solved the problem.

Glad to hear it is getting better. Unfortunately, if there is crash is not in our code, often we can't do much to prevent it.
