  • Dome light creating artifacts

The dome light in my scene is creating nasty artifacts. I've deleted it and replaced it with another and the artifacts are still there. It happens in all the camera views around the same spot. There are no maps in the dome light. The scene was rendering fine before. Happens with both distributed rendering and rendering locally.

Here are some of the render elements:

Has anyone ever had this problem?

Cool, does raising the secondary rays bias to 0.01 help?

I can go back and give it a shot. I ended up resetting the .max scene and merged in everything from the original file including the render settings. Renders fine now ?\_(ツ)_/?

So it just popped up again out of no where in this scene where I reset max and merged everything in. Turns out it's not just the IBL but all direct lighting. Raising the secondary ray bias to 0.01 didn't help.

I found this in the vray documentation. Sort of looks like the same artifact:

I can't find the '2 sided option' checkbox in the material though... am I looking right at it? [edit: found it, it's checked]

Try to disable adaptive lights - set it to uniform probabilistic. It's present in Advanced mode of Global Switches rollout.

That seems to be working, thank you!!

                Hello,

What are your GI settings and what is your V-Ray version ?

                Best regards,

If you upgrade to 3.6, is the issue still there?

                    Best regards,
