  • Vray proxy

I have a scene with a lot of proxies. The problem is moving them as a whole is talking minutes, even when in box display mode. I created a landscape plan with proxies and I imported it into my project. I was hoping things would line up, but I need to move it around. Panning and zooming are fast, but moving is a problem. I am not sure where the problem is?

Why not use Forest Pack for the distribution? Max doesn't really handle lots of objects well, that's why a forest pack or similar is more viewport friendly. 1000 proxy objects slows down your scene a lot. Even with a nice GPU, it's important to keep your scene as light as possible in terms of object count.

These are trees that really have no pattern, so they have to be placed one-by-one.

Yeah, I suppose FP might have been a better option. It seems to reboot MAX cleared up the issue I was having.

Actually, on this one, FP might not have been the solution. This landscape is crazy with over 100 different trees and bushes with another dozen ground cover areas. WIth the trees and bushes, I was able to use their CAD file and with a script, I was able to replace the 2D block with a 3D tree. With the ground cover, I might try FP because they used a hatch. The landscape plan isn't as current as the site plan, so it is a mess.

i need to start using that workflow, replacing blocks with the objects needed, somehow i never really used their blocks for anything in any file i used other than reference
