  • Anisotropy messing with smoothing groups ?

    hi,
as in the image, anisotropy is set to 0,4 causing the object to seem to show strange smoothing across the surface. it`s just a spline with an extrude and a radial brushed metal map on reflect map/glossy channel, no bump.
does anything spring to mind ? is that correct ?
    Vray 3.4.03, Max2016.
    thanks

Would it be possible to send us that scene for investigation?

either way, how does it look if you set the capping for the extrude to "Grid" instead of "Morph"?

        hi guys,
I tried extrude grid instead of morph and it`s a bit better but still some rather messy bits in certain places and who knows how it`ll react with animation, so it didn`t really fix it. I tried resetting Vray and remaking the material. Knowing me it`s probably something I`m making Vray uncomfortable with !
I`ll strip it down and send it over or attach it a bit later.
        thanks

        edit:
here`s just the object with lights/camera. I tried a default vray material and that seemed alright so maybe it is correct ? it still looks weird like it`s picking up smoothing from the vertex points
I`ve also created a new object from scratch and before filleting some of the vertices it renders ok, after it just looks weird so it seems it`s related to that.

Thanks for the scene. The problem is that the surface has a planar Map, switch to more appropriate mapping for this object like Box and anisotropy will be handled as expected.

              Hi Svetlozar,
Ok, I didn`t realise, good to know.
              thanks for checking it out.
