When setting up hdri for exterior lighting. I start with Vray HDRI map in Mat Editor. Set spherical mapping and instance into max environment. Then config viewport background to show environment. So far so good. When I adjust horizontal rotation to position the HDI it works but the performance is painfully slow. Lot's of lag, difficult to work with. If I click the rotation spinner once it takes about 4 seconds for the HDRI to move in the viewport. In tutorials I have watched this is done and the rotation is very smooth and instantaneous in the viewport. I have a decent video card and lots of ram. Can I change some setting to help this perform better? Do others have this same slow HDRI in viewport issue?

I haven't had to do this for a while, over a month, but yes, I had this exact same issue - too busy at the time to determine what was the cause, and thought it could have been due to an updated NVidia driver.
Was in 3ds Max 2017 and V-Ray 3.60.04.

just the way it is, I guess. I posted this on the AD forum last week. The only reply was to use MAX's sky system - duh, but I don't want to. I turn the environment off when I rotate.Bobby Parker

OK thanks to you both. It's helpful to know that it's not just a problem for me /my system. The various video tutorials show it rotating very smoothly. Including the one below:

I think I have had that same smooth control in the past. Now....not so good.mark f.
