It's been fixed for the lastest hotfix.
Solutions provided here WHILE you wait for a bugfix are workarounds.
Feel free to show me how different your renders would look with a 1% diffuse on top, by the way.

As Lele pointed out, there was some bug with the VRayALSurface shader and caustics specifically, which should be resolved in the latest update AFAIK.

In general though, Luc is probably right that if you just want caustics in the eyes, adding a full-blown caustics solver might be an overkill - it will probably get the job done, but the render time penalty might be too large to swallow for a typical character animation. Other approaches might work better in this case, so we will have to look into that at some point.

      Best regards,
      Vlado

vlado Thanks for the update! Is the fix populated to the Maya side as well or it's Max only at the time?
        always curious...

It be great if we could get fast caustic for eyes... I tried the trick from Ricardo Eloy in Maya but it doesn't work... And for some reason, all the shaders look a lot darker when I render caustic

That'd be very odd. Can you share the scene?

                Hi all,

I saw this video online about the skin setting of Vray Alsurface shader in GPU ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_R7k26ZR1U ) and I was captured from the caustic of the eyes that you can see on the image enclosed, is it possible to have it in some way, ther's a test version that make that possible?

I ask you that because I tried all the solution proposed in this talk (on Next and Vray 5 Trial) and none works ( for real the old fake solution with standard light do the caustic, but the skin material lost the specular effect).

                Thanks in advice.

In arnold you get caustic in the eyes, it's not sharp, but no need to be sharp in the eyes, these caustics just help a lot to get life like eyes.
