  • V-Ray Material Libary Browser

Although a Library Browser is pretty cool to have, it might be nice to have really differences from the Materialaditor. So some things might be nice to have. Meanwhile, the saved .mat Libs are still being preferred used in the mat editor.

    - renaming, deleting, copy & caste a Mat from one Lib to another / fusion of Libs together. Simple general organization tools.

    - keeping the name of the Nodes while drag´n´dropping a material into the Material editor. Actually, all are being renamed. Not so advantageous at all.

    - the possibility in preferences, to have the choice between the new and legacy shader ball appearance in the Mateditor (legacy is for the Moment way faster, when lot´s of mats are in the Editor)

    - skipping on Nodes like simple Softbox being in the MatLib. For now the render preparation process in the Lib Browser crashes or leaves an unhappy Guy behind

    - while previewing a Shader, the possibility to relink path on new texture/ Map Paths In this Case it ould be great to rerender only this Ball after relinking missing Texture for instance.

I dont know if i expect to much, but maybe this makes kind of sense? Or someone having additional Ideas on this?

First of all - thanks for the feedback!

The initial idea for the V-Ray Material Library Browser was to have a way to distribute a starter pack of ready-to-use materials and nothing more. The "Add to library" functionality is kind of "complimentary" and it was never planned as a full featured thing covering every possible user scenario. There are pretty good 3rd party tools for that.

Mind that we will to switch to Cosmos for delivering V-Ray materials in the future so the current Library Browser might become obsolete.

Switching to the Max swatches is already there - Render Setup / Settings / System - Native 3ds Max material swatches.
If it was that easy, it would have already been done

Peter, thanks for the feedback as well!

I understand, so it´s just something nice for in between - a bridge feature. (wich is also welcome of course.. =)
Looking forward to what Cosmos will do then.
