for the self illumination cant you just use a blend material with vray light material in one slot, your vray mat in another and the mask in the other?

since we are on the topic of extra slots and stuffs for vray mat, i'd vote for dispersion aswell, absorbsion, scattering.Dmitry Vinnik

percy yes, i didnt mean a slot, but an option. But actually a slot for dispersion would be good to, just if you want to get super custom.Dmitry Vinnik

I agree that we really need a self illumination slot in the vray material!

egz i see, what I ment tho was the scattering of light on the surface not in side of the surface....maybe im not understanding it correctly, but now absobsion/scattering happen only when material is refractive.Dmitry Vinnik

Currently the best way to do a self-illumination material with additional properties is to use a shellac material with a VRayLightMtl as a base, and a VRayMtl with 100% blending as the shellac material. This will be as efficient as having a slot in VRayMtl.

Doesn't sound efficient to me or intuitive for that matter, sounds more like a cheap hack. And what about rendertimes? Shellac is usually painfully slow?
