I seached to see if anybody already posted it, but since I couldn't find it... Is it just me or the Vray lights are kinda really hard to place and orient?!?!

    Thanks!

You also could use the align tool to match a Vray light's position and directionality to a max standard light.

Align, then link perhaps? That's what I've been doing for positioning the Vray Sun.

ok, I've packed my setup in case any of you guys could find it usefull.

            You can get it here:

Just move the dummy around to see the vray light following.

            Cheers

one could even do a scripted plugin to get the light in the creation rollout
given one had the knowledge and time to do so

Will look at it over the weekend - it'd definitely be useful.

Yes, I, and I am sure many others, would really like a target Vray light! This would be really nice to see in Vray 1.5! I know there are work arounds, but that just means more clicks and it would be much more elegant to have this native in Vray!

Did anyone script this by chance?

When you want to place a V-Ray light over a window or on a construction grid, the current corner-to-corner method is quite useful - in these situations a target light would be somewhat of a hassle. In other situations (e.g. studio setup), I agree that a target approach would be more handy. Both methods have their uses... maybe we just need a "Free" area light and a "Targeted" area light.

                    Best regards,
                    Vlado

Yep, or a toggle similar to the current vraycamera "target" feature.

I have to bump this thread. It's not a life threatening issue, but it is annoying. I rotate and push my vray light around nearly EVERY time I make one. Yes, I could make a dummy and assign a lookat constraint to the light, but that's tedious to do every time as well.

A targeted and non-targeted vray light would be nice - or for my purposes <Select VRay Light under create, Click and drag to create in viewport, Click where you want the target (or right click to skip target)>
I'm aware this will make the light initially rotate at a weird angle until it is moved up or further away from the target, but like I said, this would make it easier for my use of the light.

                        Am I the only one?

+1 for two types of creation for the same light; free and targeted.

I think Lukas from LPM made a vray target light script. I haven't used it in a long while but you should be able to google it.

Just saw this thread and luckily I made a script for that purpose. So if it is of any use for someone feel free to use it. If you have any suggestions or additions, please PM me
It's a macroscript, so you can assign it to a hotkey or button.
Only difference to a normal Target light is: you can't turn "targeted" off and there is no blue line between light and target. So be careful when you create a targeted light, you can't switch it back to a normal Vray Light.
