V-Ray already has:
1) tone mapping (==color mapping)
2) physical lights
3) physical materials
So 3 out of 4 is not that bad... However, multilight cannot be implemented into the current V-Ray architecture (but you can always render your scene for each light and composite that). Objects lights are planned at some point as an update.
What other features may or may not be implemented, I cannot comment yet. We also have many other plans for V-Ray that do not necessarily align to a simple fryrender/maxwell emulation.
Best regards,
Vlado
