  • Render Elements to PSD

Since this is a "WISH" list, and there isn't any "that would be nice to have" list, i'll just post it here.

It would be nice to be able to save a psd file with all the render elements in the proper layer order with the right blending modes for each layer when VRay is finished rendering.

I realize there are other ways to do this but i thought it would be a neat option to have since i head over to photoshop when i'm done rendring anyway!

    Re: Render Elements to PSD

I second you. That would surely be a huge improvement in workflow, at least for people dealing regularily with stills.
A long time ago I used to work on cinema 4D and the feature I miss the most is its direct export to psd of the layered render. And that was years back !

Have you looked at PSD manager 2 by Cebas? If set up correctly, this plug-in can do exactly that.

Yes I know PSD manager and tried it a while ago. It is indeed very powerful. But well the problem is just that it is... another plugin !
I think it would be nice to have that option integrated in vray. PSD manager would still be an alternative for more demanding users, for eg with its ability to export IDs as separate layers.

              agreed.

I was recently at an LNA event and one of the speakers said, and I'll try and quote it as closely as possible, "The best and worst thing about Max is plugins." He then went on to explain what he meant. Especially after looking at the face of the Autodesk rep sitting right there.
He said that you can get a plugin for just about anything you want that's relatively inexpensive and easy to use. The problem is that each plugin adds another place for things to go wrong and another tech support place you'll have to call for crashes. If you need a ton of plugins the fact is that max ends up sucking because of how much it crashes.

I say keep the plugins to as few as possible while still being able to do your job relatively efficiently. If you offer a PSD save I'd definitely be interested. I'd like it more if autodesk did it. Not sure why they couldn't add it. Maya has an old photoshop format they save it. I wonder if they could just add a layers feature and put that in all their apps. Of course, sharing that part of the SDK may be more of a dilemma.
