  • Photometric scale for VrayLightMaterial

I am quite new to the forum but from the recent projects at Airbus I found that it would be great to have photometric units for the VrayLightMaterial as they already exist for the Max IES lights, the VRayLight and the Sun/Sky-System.
So I could have an arbritrary geometry of a light source and define values like candela, lumens, lux etc. I have the feeling that render times are lot faster with the lightmaterial compared to the VrayLight and it is easier to setup. In our cabins we typically have a lot of lights (sidewalls, bins, readinglights etc.).

Would like to hear of your thoughts about this.

    Cheers

    Robert

This is somewhat tricky, but it has been requested before and we will definitely think about it. For now, there is a formula for calculating the intensity given a light power and the surface are of the object.

      Thanks Vlado,

we have maxscripted the workaround now to calculate the formula based on the meshes surface. But we are looking forward to the implementation of it

          Hi,

As the 'physical' approach to lighting becomes a more and
more important part of 3D (esp Arch viz) features such as
this will become invaluable tools to work with. (IMHO)

You can find the formula in this thread: http://www.chaosgroup.com/forums/vbu...ht=area+lumens
