  • VRay Mtl- Use irradiance map [OFF] - Subdivision Multi

    Hi All,

    Have found the VRay Mtl- Use irradiance map option [turned off] very handy for particular geometry with fine lines or details.
    When this option is turned off the renderer defaults back to Brute Force [DMC] sampling for the object that has this material applied to it.

    I think it would be even better if this option also had a subdivision multiplier as a percentage of the global DMC settings, just like the 'detail enhancement' option has in the irradiance map.

    IS this possible????

      Could one apply that to objects with vraydisplacementmod "grass" on them? That sort of thing?

        Newer versions of V-Ray will have a GI subdivs multiplier in the V-Ray Object settings dialog; it will work regardless if you use the irradiance map or not.

          Good stuff Vlado!!

          Just what the doctor ordered!! More per-object control.
          Currently it's a bit of a nightmare to have all objects in a scene rendered with the same high settings when some objects/materials only require very low settings.

          I can't wait until we see the 'Newer Versions'

              Yes, it would be good to know how long till we reach that light at the end of the tunnel.....

              In my opinion this addition will be a massive improvement to Vray in general.
