  • Release the license while rendering...

Ok, I know it may be strange or not exaclty right (in terms of licensing) but I really wish Vray to release the license while rendering.

I have now a project rendering for 5 days (and will render for at least 2 more), and I cannot start working on my laptop on the next project because the license is in use.

I am not a company and I am a single person working at vray, and I really wish not needing 2 licenses for my daily workflow...
I cannot afford to purchase second license...

    many thanks...
    Bill.

Once you started Backburner rendering or rendering inside Max, you can pull out the dongle. That has always been the beauty of it !!! (Actually the way it's been programmed !!) The dongle is only needed for changing VRay parameters and for STARTING a render...I have had issues though when you pause ALL renders in Backburner and resume them some time later: in that case the VRay console needs to be started on some node which may need the dongle from the machine that issued the renders...

Do I have to send it through backburner ? Or it works also at normal renders ?

The render must have started either in Backburner or inside Max. After that you can remove the dongle. Max or backburner (server node) just keeps rendering. I'm doing this all the time: I have a renderfarm in the office: I just send jobs from my workstation (at the office), while my dongle is connected, and after the nodes start rendering I close Max, take my dongle out and take it home where I can work on my home machine.
