Hi all,
I'll try to explain this as best I can!!
As standard now, I always render to .exr and have a set of render elements to comping later. One of those is an VRayExtraTex with VrayDirt acting as my AO.
So, the problem comes when I get a client wanting to add people/traffic/trees last minute. I normally make the whole scene, make it matte shadow, and add the people etc, rendering just the people and alpha comping them in. If you leave the AO element activated, the whole scene still gets rendered (only in the ao element, not the rgba) not just the objects without MS. Of course this also adds a lot to the render time, where you might only be rendering little people in a masterplan, but also rendering a full AO in the background.
What I think would be great is if in the vray object properties dialog, a tick box is added to include/exclude the object from the VRayExtraTex element. A typical situation would be make all the buildings exculded from ao, but keep the ground, so the people can have their AO added to the base plate.
Because a lot of people use Xref scenes, pulling together various components of the scene in to a render file, the solution can not require the objects getting added to a include/exclude list in the VRayExtraTex.
I think I have made sense!!
Does anyone else think this would be good, and Vlado, can you think of a solution?
Many thanks
Mark
