    Hey all,
just wanted to bring that request from the maya part of the forum to the bright side.

    http://www.chaosgroup.com/forums/vbu...8-Disney-PTex-!!

Would be awesome to have that in the max version too!

    Best regards,
    Michael

I'll add my +1 to this thread too. I've been playing with Ptex in 3D Coat and it is amazing for detail. For now baking it out to a normal UV type map is doable, but you lose so much of that extra information. Support for this in Vray would be huge for hi-res work.

Ptex is definitely the future, and i will love to be able to use ptex in vray, especially like brett mentionned for super hi-res work. And i hope zbrush will follow on the ptex .

Just had a look at Ptex info & it sounds very very promising.....especially for adding that always-needed-fine-details

Any further thoughts on adding this Vlado, or is this more of a Max thing? I am digging around looking at that Stripes plugin, but haven't had time to test it yet.

Looks like Mudbox now can paint Ptex. Getting this support in a Vray map would be awesome.

Well, like I said, it would not be much of a problem to add a PTex texture to V-Ray; I was hoping that a more general solution would be available by now for 3ds Max...

              Best regards,
              Vlado

There is someone working on a plugin, but I haven't heard back since I emailed asking to check it out so no idea if it's working yet.

I'm looking at picking up Mudbox finally, and largely because of the ptex support there. I don't know if they have any system in place for baking it out like 3Dcoat does, but it would be way better to be able to just use ptex format with Vray in any case. Any movement in this direction yet?

Yes, we are working on a PTex reader for V-Ray in 3ds Max.

                      Best regards,
