  • Material Override for "Use light cache for glossy rays"

Not sure if this has been requested before, but I often find myself unchecking "use light cache for glossy rays" because one or two materials in my scene have glossy refractions, which look too chunky when calc'd through the light cache. Would it be possible to have a check box in the VRay material so you could override the light cache setting on a case by case basis and force it to calculate reflections/refractions for that material normally?

    Thanks!

There is an option in VRayMtl called "Treat glossy rays as GI rays", if you set it to "Always", reflections/refractions from this material will always use the light cache, regardless of the "Use light cache for glossy rays" setting.

Wow, I can't say how many times I've passed over that menu and never thought anything about it -- guess it's time I take another pass at the manual and see what other goodies I've been missing out on. Thanks Vlado!

btw Peter, I stumbled upon your blog yesterday and read through it -- really stunning work, and some great little tutorials. Your video demo of VRayRT convinced us to put down for a license, hopefully it arrives today.

        Thanks again!

Nope; only works the other way round.

D'oh! Well, it's at least helpful to be able to include materials selectively. At least that way you can get the major scene material covered by the LC. Thanks for clarifying that.
