  • Vraylights and directionality control

I was thinking that it could be great to have a numerical value in the vray area light to control how wide or concentrated the rays are.
"Ignore light normals" doesn't give the control one might need.
With a specific value, one could simulate either a spotlight or an area light.

    Thanks!
    Guido.

i would also vote for distance parameter, not the cutoff threshold but rather a fade range, would be so helpful.

        Yes, have some.

It would be beneficial being able to store a Vray "spotlight" with the irradiance map.

This is already done for rectangle lights in V-Ray 2.0.

            Hey

Thats great Vlado. So does it mean that all Vray lights will have that same parameters as Standard spot/omni etc etc have? Long/short range, fallof/hotspot and so on? That would be great! Also I sure hope it would be fully working with high quality viewport to simulate as much as we can from viewport without going to renders

Nope, no viewport preview for any of that stuff yet. The types of viewport lights are hard-coded in the 3ds Max code. One can do a lot for shaders with all the MetaSL stuff, but not for lights.

There is just one additional parameter - directionality. There are no ranges or hotspots etc - it would still be best to use a standard light if you need these.

              Best regards,
              Vlado
