  • VRay material - self illumination

    Hello,

Would it be possible to implement some self-illumination controls in VRay material, please ? so far, the only workaround I've found is to use a VRay Blend and mix the base material with a self-illuminated one. Ok, that does the trick, but it's not really straightforward IMO.

    Thanks in advance,

    Regards.

Yep, it's on the "to-do" list.

        Vlado,

Any ETA on this? Having worked on a big project that required converting lots of existing assets from another studio's Maya/Vray pipe to our Max/Vray pipe I can tell you having this one simple parameter would have saved us countless man-hours. Having to rely on vrayLtMtl and blend materials often creates it's own set of problems and limitations which I won't go into here, and being able to just add self illum to the base shader is so much more reasonable for certain production tasks.

        Thanks,
        Mitch

Ill second that. We have use for it all the time and it often means building alternate files with exposure turned off or switching to scanline for the sake of expediency.

Id love to see a simple override.

          Thanks!

I hope that we will get to it in the next few days.

Will it be a multiplier set up like the VRayLightMat? Or will we have units (lumens, etc)?

how about an option for both?

Nope; it will be really just a self-illumination slot.

vlado, has this feature been implemented yet?

also, is there a way we can have material act as a light,
like the vray light-mesh, but just that the self-illuminating material also actually emits light (so no GI is necessary)

I've done work on it, but it's not in any build yet.

The VRayLightMtl material has an option for direct illumination since a long time now. Unfortunately, this will not be available in the VRayMtl itself.
