  • v-ray stereo helper converter

We are just finishing a stereoscopic video using the v-ray built in stereoscopic rig helper. In a particular shot we have some clouds fly through done with afterburn. The problem is that v-ray is way too slow in comparison to the scanline renderer that initially sufficed our needs. Is there a way to convert the stereo helper into two separate 3ds max cameras? Perhaps a custom written script?

    Best regards

The cameras are separate anyways, you can render directly through the left or right camera if you wish. There is no need to detach them from the stereo rig.

You misunderstood my request. I wish to render the scene with the scanline renderer. Does the stereo helper work in scanline too?

i think the vray physical camera works in scanline if you disable exposure control? if i remember correctly.

if its just standard cameras then you shouldnt have a problem using scanline.

I've just tried to render a scene with the scanline renderer using the vray stereoscopic rig. It seems to me that it's not supported.
So, there's no way to "extract" the two cameras from the stereoscopic rig helper?

It worked for me when I tried it with the scanline renderer. Can you describe in more detail what you are doing?

I made a simple scene including a teapot, a v-ray camera and a v-ray stereo helper. The renderer was set to scanline. When I hit the render button, both the left and right "eye" where identical. I'm using max 2011 and vray 2.0 (didn't yet install the latest build).

Hm, are you using the stereo helper alone, or you are using it in conjunction with the stereo rig controller? The stereo rig works fine with the scanline renderer since it creates distinct camera objects in the scene. The stereo helper alone will only work with V-Ray.

I was using the stereo helper alone. Can anyone give me a tip on how to use the stereo rig controller? is there a way to exactly reproduce the stereo helper settings on the stereo rig controller?

                  thanks!
