  • anisotropic reflection control over the highlight orientation on an object

Here's a picture that explain it better then I could with word..

I would like to have full control over the emplacement of the higlight! Would be really usefull to make complex material!

Can you do that with a uvmap instead? Might be more direct / predictable for you?

controlling emplacement of higlight with a uvmap? explain me how I can do that I don't get it :S

Try out the "uv vectors derivation" options under where you have highlighted. Add a new uvwmap modifier to the object with a new channel, set the material to use this instead of x, y and z and then play with the direction of the mapping gizmo.

ok I understand what you mean, but it will not work for what I want to do and it's way more complex to do then having just it like I did it in the pic. I builded my own hair shader, and I need to have control over the emplacement of reflection to push up further

How would you like to control that hilight?

            Best regards,

Like I did in the image I joined,

just by having a value (I called it : Orientation ) from 0 to 1, let's say default is 0.5, then 1 is the highlight at the top and 0 and the bottom. that would be really handfull

I did my own hair shader, quite complex material, and I could make it even more realistic with this option. Also, at work we have special reflection effect in our wood that can be achieved with this kind of feature

If you mean "shifting" the hilight along the strands, you might be able to do this with a suitable normal map...

Way too complicated and not userfriendly, have to do and test the normal etc.. too long. can we just have a slider for that?

Nope (or at least I'm somewhat reserved towards it); I'm not sure it's an option you would normally use for anything else than in your specialized hair shader. You could do it very easily with the VRayGLSL material anyways.

                    Best regards,

Can you provide me a working scene where I have control over the emlpacement of highlight of the material? I tried but just don't get it how you can do that with the VrayGLSL. I'm sure it gonna help other peoples too.

                      Thank you

Ok; what kind of geometry do you want to put the shader on (i.e. regular meshes, VRayFur, Hair&Fur, Ornatrix)?

                        Best regards,
                        Vlado

Ok, I would like to have it working with hairfarm and hair and fur since I use both for different things. And I render also often the hairs as geometry, so do I need to have it to work with geometry? I would like to have it for geometry too, so I can use it on our woods, the wood we have ,have very special reflection properties.

Can I just have a little explanation of how this GLSL thing work, you need predefined material properties to get this work? and how do you make them? Quite complex to me, compared to a slider on the material to change the orientation of the highlight I'm not a programmer or something, just a poor artist haha.

                          Thank's

Ok then; will see what can be done about it; I'll need to get you an updated V-Ray version anyways since I needed to do some changes for the anisotropic hilights. It will take a couple of days to make sure it works with hair&fur and Ornatrix.

                            Best regards,

ID:	846172Ok great! So if I understand you will integrate a new slider?

And I use Hairfarm and hair and fur.

here's an exemple of my custom hair shader... the face is in big wip time... gonna be photoreal once finish, for now it's just a 3d sketch of the face to sort out the proportions of his face (Daniel Craig) and I will redo it once finish with skin pores etc, redo the texture, etc. And the hairs of course, since now it's just a quick hair cut to see the shader at work. I can make them better if have can have control over the reflection emplacement

                              thank's
