  • Prevent max loading material textures when the vray override material is turned on

    Heya Vlado,

I'm not sure if this is possible or not but it'd be great that if you turned on the vray override option, it would stop max from loading the textures in each material while preparing the renderer as a time saving thing. I'm doing a film job with a lot of 8k textures and often it takes more time to load the textures than render the frame if I'm just doing a simple matte pass with an override. I'm not sure if this is more to do with how max feeds scene information to vray though?

    Cheers!

    John

You can uncheck "maps" in the globals that will not load the textures, but obviously it will also affect things like displacements.

It's on the "to do" list to fix this.

      Best regards,
      Vlado

        Thanks Vlado!

Yep Dmitry - cheers for that. We've a few displaced bits in the scene so it'd be great to not have to lose them if we only want a quick method of neutering materials when we're checking tracking and so on.

Did this every get fixed? Because I am currently in the process to do some lighting changes on a heavy textured scene. Having override turned on still loads the textures. Following Dimitry's advice kinda works but sadly kills vray sun and sky map and/or hdris.
          Cheers,
          Oliver

So this comes to mind. It might work but be a bit heavy. If you create a state set and record a new material assignment to geometry in your scene (grey mtl) it will remove actual materials/textures from rendering for that state only.

problem is if you have shader based displacement, you would have to manually handle that. If you don't it might just work.
