  • Any chance of vray for revit?

please make a plugin for revit....

otherwise i may have to use maxwell!!! phah!
we usually model in max but im going to be part of the revit team and workflow dictates revit is the way forward for us.
We render in either maxwell or vray and my partner in crime is trying to get us to use maxwell straight from revit.....

    help!

ps sorry didnt know which thread to put this in!

Personally I wouldn't render directly out of Revit, although it's perfect when you're still in conceptual phase and quickly want to produce visuals. This could typically be done by the draftsman/designer who is building the revit model.
Max is geared towards rendering high end visualisations/animations - this means greater control over lighting, cameras, materials etc and also speed - able to do network/distributed rendering which you can't do with revit (or am I wrong?)

Our workflow: Modelling in Revit, export FBX, File linking that FBX in Max and replacing all materials/lights/cams with vray components. Whenever there's changes to the model you just reload the updated FBX and your materials gets updated as well.

We are in fact working on a Revit plugin and we are quite ahead in the development. But, as pnel77 pointed out, rendering out of Revit itself is painful and inconvenient - it was simply not meant for this.

And yet, so many people will then think they dont need dedicated 3D artists anymore...

I'm not so sure After all, you can get a picture directly out of Revit even now...

Pity no company will say in their marketing stuff "This will give you a pretty decent render without much effort, but for advanced stuff or super realistic results its still better to have a dedicated 3D person for this"

            But we can dream
