  • qtvr -> output six single images of each side

this could come handy if you want to output to a qtvr.

..maybe vlado can output a rendering directly to qtvr --> the source code is freely available at the developerpage of quicktime.

Just slap a "Reflect/Refract" map in any slot, set it to "from file" and click the "To file" thingy down at the bottom.
Then press the "pick object and render maps" button and pick any object you wish to act as the camera center. The images must be assembled in photoshop or similar after though. You can also just render with a Box vray camera. This is for qubic maps though. I thought there was a qt-vr exporter in max allready though?

i know all the tricks to get cubic enviroments, but they all have the drawback that i have to render them outside the renderpipe.

The idea is that when i want to render something, then i click "render" and not a reflectionmap.

The qtvr exporter of max is crap and produces qtvr's without tiles, which would make sense if you want to have a fullscreen qtvr over internet.

this may be more work than what you want to do but couldn't you create a camera and instance it 5 times and align each with the proper orientation for the sides of the box. then set up a video post sequence(yes video post) to render out each camera to its own file.

i just render with cubic camera then in photoshop slice it. simple as that
then those parts i put into a qtvr cubic converter. (they are free online) and voila. im done

Well are there any other 3d apps that let you create your quicktime VR files directly? I fail to see the problem. You most likely have to assemble the QTVR file outside of any 3d program anyway. Am I missing something here?

FormZ can. And I believe there's a plugin/script that lets you do it with scanline.

Hehe. Dynedain, we already established that there is an exporter in max. I think he wants one that is built into vray so he can just generate his qtvr as he renders.

                  yep..now you got it!
..the maxqtvr exporter is crap and cropping the tiles in photoshop... hmm (that's sad to read such a suggestion here)... i'm not interrested in patching together qtvr that way...that's lo-fi CG!

The code for generating a cubic qtvr is FREELY available from apple, so i wonder why still no1 is taking the code and integrate it to it's renderer.

A lot of times this has to do with what license the code is released under. If the code is licensed under the GPL, then Chaos wouldn't be able to integrate it into Vray without releasing the sourcecode to Vray. If its done under the BSD license, then its a bit more flexible. If it's done under the Apple open-source license then there are a whole slew of different restrictions.

Only catch I see is that some of those scripts say they work in windows, but then also say they require the Carbon runtime libraries.....which means OSX only
