  • Is there a vray material in glsl format - for use with substance painter?

    Heya Folks!

Substance painter 1.0 has launched yesterday and one of the things they've added is support for glsl materials in the viewport. Is there a version of the vray material (or even close to it) coded in this language? It's a really nice painting application but the way the channels work are largely based around the disney pbr stuff so the glossy and reflection stuff is quite different. If anyone's made the Vray material in GLSL then we might get a more useful match between the two for lookdev purposes.

    Cheers!

We have a GLSL version of the V-Ray material as part of the V-Ray for Maya code; if you are interested, please email me to vlado@chaosgroup.com If we can get it working, I can post it here for others to use.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

Btw is there a demo version of this so that we can use it for testing?

So!? You guys got it to work
          within painter. That’s awsome!
But is there somewhere I can get a hold of a glsl version of the Vray 5 shader?
I wan’t to test it out in Substance designer!
          please notify me

            Hey folks,

There is a version of the VRayMtl that actually ships with Substance Painter, since version 2020.1 (6.1.0), here's some docs about it:
            https://docs.substance3d.com/integra...196215180.html
and an article with a demo about it on our blog: https://www.chaosgroup.com/blog/how-...painter-2020-1

The version that ships is equal to our shader in version Next, so basically it's missing the coat and sheen layers, but other than that - everything else is there.

We're actually ready with an update that supports coat and sheen and we're in talks with the Substance guys on getting this updated version out there too. It should be hopefully be out pretty soon.

            I hope this helps.
