  • Vray MetaBalls as Geometry

I love the new metaball, could be very handy .... if ...

you could use it / convert it to geometry:

    1. Can not apply geometry modifiers on top. (Relax, Smooth, FFD, ...)

    2. Can not convert it to Editable Poly.

We used the (deceased) glu3d, which was good for that and enabled us to simulate snowcovers etc, which we later could easily modify and use as geometry.

I would appreciate that very much!

    Cheers, Peter

Give thinkbox frost a go for that. The vray metaball object is at render time only so no 3dsmax polygons get made in the viewports.

That's not entirely true - we do have a polygon preview in the viewports. I'm guessing that Peter simply wants this preview to be available as a regular mesh output too.

Exactly! I saw that you can preview the mesh in the viewport, but no option to convert it into a poly. Or add modifiers.

We had several cases (fluids used in a stillimage for example) where this would add some real functionality.

@joconnel: Frost or PWrapper do this. I always digged the PWrapper, but somehow the developer went off the radar 2 years ago .

        Thanks for your consideration,
        Peter

Anyway, will see what can be done about it - after all, the polygon generation code is already there.

I agree that this would be extremely helpful. Any news on this? Right now Max's own Mesher compound object works with this, though an integrated solution would be more convenient.
