I'd rather you just said "we won't be doing this" than saying "we won't forget it".
It was requested by me 5 years ago now and still nothing, and no sign of there ever being anything. Literally just an "exclude refractive" from the material override rollout.
Presumably this edits actual materials - surely then there is a danger that it won't put it back to how it was when you "remove override setup"? The scene I've been working in is fairly prone to crashing so I wonder would the autosaves essentially be saves of my scene but with all the materials set to grey?
It's actually quite smart, it creates a shell material with the original material intact set to viewport and the changed material to render. Because the script sets up the materials, you can easily save your scene and open it and remove at a later time. He knows by the way he set things up, how to put it back; Can't hurt to give it a try on a small test scene and see what it does. It's more powerful than a simple refractive override as it can also look for opacity maps, certain material names, bump maps, etc..;
Well, the technical stuff should be asked to Dave_Wortley he's the genius behind the script. I suggest giving it a test drive on a small scene and see where it gets you.
That wouldn't be up to Dave afaik. The script only changes the materials to shell materials. Maybe Shell materials aren't supported by GPU. I couldn't find it in the docs.
