  • DR Settings - nodes pools

    Hello,

It's me again, still on the DR Settings window
Would it be possible to add a "pools" feature, so that we can simply define various pools for nodes (similar to servers groups with Backburner) ? ideally, these pools informations would be stored in a config file, just like vray.cfg, with an easily customizable path, so that it could be shared between coworkers on a network ... what do you think ?

    Thanks

    Regards.

We're using Deadline to manage our VRayDR rendering now, works like a charm!

I'm sure it's great but ... I don't think our boss would agree to spend money on such a system Deadline seems great, but it also seems pretty expensive ... at least for companies like the one I work for

Check out the power management system of Deadline, it can pay for itself by saving on energy of blades and air-con costs.

Agreed. Must have paid for its self in the years we've had it running. That and the time it saves me updating all the node plugins etc!

You try to convince any boss that new software is a must have, they will refuse why should they spend money when things work now just "fine" in their view.

I'm my own boss so I bought 22 deadline licenses over the years as I understand the cost/saving ratio. But I work with some clients who don't share that ideology Back on the subject, it would be good to have pools I suppose, but it probably is possible to have a custom text file defining for each user which pool he can be using.

What about using the Max servers option if you want to limit the amount of nodes per job?

Yes, that's the problem .... also, my boss and the creatives don't understand much about what we, at 3d dept, really do

It sure is an option, but not flexible enough for my taste. That's why I thought getting nodes pools, a bit like BB servers groups, would be good.
